Johann Freiderich Grahl - born on August 8, 1849 in Pomerania, Gross Krein, in the county Kreis Stolp, in the parish of Gross Du"bsow. This was in the court district of Starnitz near Danzig, Germany.

Today, this area is now part of Poland. Danzig is now Gdansk and Krien is now Krzynia. I have information that indicates that his daugheter from an earlier marriage in Germany, was born in Berlin, which would indicate that Johann lived in Berlin for a time.

Johann was the son of Johann Friederich Grahl, Sr. also born in Gross Krien. J. F. Grahl, Sr. was the son of Michael Freiderich Grahl, information about his origins are not available.

Johann married Amelia Troike August 30, 1884.

Johann became a citizen of the United States in 1875. He had a brother named Carl, who my family referred to as Uncle Carly, who supposedly had a part in the formation of the American Crayon Company (which became Prang and is now part of Dixon, Ticonderoga). Carl's wife was named Berta.

He also had a sister in Berlin, Germany who married Eduard Czarnnowsky. Their grandson, Paul along with his wife Anna, wrote to our family before WWII and a few times after up into the early 1950's.

With his son George and daughter Elizabeth (Sperry) from a previous marriage, he had 10 children altogether:
